The toilets are hardly any better: filthy holes
that block and overflow as soon as the pit, on the other side of
prison, has to cope with rainwater as well as the usual waste. Heat,
the only constant, makes the air unbreathable as soon as one
gets within five metres. This part of the prison was built with the
exit from the toilets leading onto the corridor that leads to the
kitchen and the chimney.
Finally, the concrete sinks that are used to wash
laundry, rags and food were built without any drainage. The women are
practically wading in the waste water as soon as they have carried out
any task at the sinks. The open crevasse in the ground that crosses
this section of the prison is alive with mosquitoes and bacteria. It is
not rare that infants fall in while playing.
This situation is as bad as one could possibly
imagine. No effective treatment of the gynecological conditions and
mycoses is possible until these buildings are renovated.

Finish bringing the living conditions of the women up to a standard
that allows their health to be protected.
